Advanced Microdermabrasion

Immediate gratification, bringing softer, smoother skin to the surface

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures today. It is a skin rejuvenation technique that helps repair skin that is damaged from the sun, acne or the effects of aging. The aesthetician uses crystals on the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layers of skin.

This procedure requires no medical oversight and is commonly used in conjunction with facial treatments and chemical peels.

Microdermabrasion Techniques

Microdermabrasion works in two unique ways:

1. By deep exfoliations and cleansing skin pores, thus healing existing acne
2. By removing the dead skin cells to prevent pimples from appearing. Pimples are usually caused by dead skin cells that fill up skin pores.

Why Microdermabrasion?

Skin reproduces itself approximately every 28 days. Newborn skin cells, or epidermal cells, push themselves to the surface. Due to environmental/natural causes, they eventually die, creating a layer of dead skin cells. This can often cause clogged or enlarged pores, bumpy looking skin, and/or a dull appearance. In addition to regular skin reproduction, the skin's appearance is determined by its exposure to potentially harmful environmental influences such as direct sunlight and air pollution. As we age, this process slows down, leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance. The irregular shapes and hardness of Microdermabrasion crystals make the material extremely efficient for numerous skin defects. The vacuum control located on the machine determines the depth of abrasion and the rate at which crystals are pulled across the skin's surface. Therefore, by stimulating the production of skin cells and collagen, Microdermabrasion reduces acne, black/white heads, discoloration, rough/dry skin, scarring, fine lines/wrinkles, and the overall skin tone.

Is microdermabrasion safe?

Microdermabrasion is completely safe, without any side-effects.

How many treatments will I require?

It all depends on your patent skin condition, but usually, 4 to 8 treatments (2-3 weeks apart) are needed. Most people should see improvements after one treatment. With multiple treatments, fine lines, acne scars and enlarged pores become less noticeable and the skin looks more translucent. Maintenance of results requires repeating treatments monthly, after the initial regimen is completed.

Is there recovery time after Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a "lunchtime" procedure. There is very little recovery time needed after Microdermabrasion. Your treatment area may feel slightly sunburned after the procedure, but this should last only a few hours. Our staff will recommend a moisturizer to use after your treatment. Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun, so please wear a high-quality sunscreen with a SPF of +25. You should avoid Alpha-Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic Acid products and skin exfoliation scrubs 3-days before and 3-days after a treatment. We discourage the use of full face make-up, such as liquid foundations or pressed powder foundations for 24 hours after a treatment.
